When seeding, a chisel plow with a seed box mounted onto the plow is used. This
allows the seedbed preparation and seeding to be completed in one pass. The
chisel plow leaves a deep furrow on the contour where the seeds are deposited.
Deep furrows are a water management practice designed to reduce erosion, trap
snow and rainwater, and break any compaction of the soil. The seed mix consists
mostly of native grasses that are documented and described in the pre-mine vegetation
surveys.
