Kennecott Energy Company
The award for the Kennecott Energy
Company is for the Cordero Mine's
RKG Constructed Wetland Dikes. Six dikes
approximately five (5) feet tall were
constructed in a draw. Each dike has
a rock gabion lined notch that detains
water to promote the wetlands but eventually
allows the water to pass the structure.

Vegetation monitoring since 1994 has shown a continual shift from the originally seeded species to volunteer wetland species. Use of the wetlands by wildlife has also been observed. In 1998 the RKG Constructed Wetland Dikes won the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Reclamation and Wildlife and Stewardship Award.
