Kennecott Energy Company

Photo 5 Spring 1998 This photo was taken of the wetland cell behind Dike D looking Northeast from the west bank of the wetlands. The award for the Kennecott Energy Company is for the Cordero Mine's RKG Constructed Wetland Dikes. Six dikes approximately five (5) feet tall were constructed in a draw. Each dike has a rock gabion lined notch that detains water to promote the wetlands but eventually allows the water to pass the structure.

Photo 1 1986-87 This photo was taken during initial topsoil replacement west of the drainage in which the Dikes D, E, and F would be constructed 6 years later.

Vegetation monitoring since 1994 has shown a continual shift from the originally seeded species to volunteer wetland species. Use of the wetlands by wildlife has also been observed. In 1998 the RKG Constructed Wetland Dikes won the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Reclamation and Wildlife and Stewardship Award.
