Wyoming has been the nation’s leading coal producer since 1986, and the top 10 producing mines are located in the Powder River Basin. Currently, about 40% of America’s coal comes from Wyoming, with Wyoming coal going to 34 states.
Wyoming mines produced 401,457,074 tons of coal employed 6,902 people in 2012.
